Welcome to Happy Hooves Sanquhar, a unique and inclusive equestrian centre nestled in the beautiful Nith valley between Ayr and Dumfries in Scotland. Our mission is to provide a nurturing environment where horses and people come together to create positive and transformative experiences.
Our Story
Founded by Laura Wilson, a passionate horse enthusiast, and her dedicated team, Happy Hooves Sanquhar was born from a lifelong dream to establish a riding school that caters to individuals of all ages and abilities. With over 30 years of experience in the equestrian world, Laura's vision was to create a place where horses and ponies could be a source of inspiration, healing, and personal growth.
The journey began by offering riding lessons and horse care sessions to the local community. Over the years, we expanded our services to include therapeutic riding and equine-assisted learning, making a significant impact on the lives of those facing physical, emotional, or cognitive challenges.
Our Approach
At Happy Hooves, we believe in the power of the horse-human connection. Our team of qualified coaches and volunteers work tirelessly to provide a supportive and caring environment where riders of all abilities can flourish. Whether you're a seasoned equestrian or a complete beginner, we have a program tailored just for you.
Our activities range from individual and group lessons, exhilarating hacks through stunning landscapes, to therapeutic treks that provide a unique blend of adventure and healing. For the younger ones, we offer fun-filled pony care days and unforgettable pony birthday parties that leave lasting memories.
Making a Difference
Happy Hooves Sanquhar is more than just a riding school; we are a community that cares deeply about the well-being of our participants. We collaborate with Social Work services and local schools to offer Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) which has shown remarkable results in improving physical and mental health, self-confidence, and socialization.
We take pride in catering to riders with disabilities, providing adaptive equipment and a safe environment for everyone to enjoy the joy of horse riding. Witnessing the transformation of individuals, from overcoming challenges to building new skills, is at the heart of what we do.
Our Vision
Our vision, "Happy Hooves, Happy Horses, Happy People, Changing Lives," drives us forward. We are excited about the future as we plan to build an indoor arena complex that will enable us to extend our services year-round and create new opportunities for riders and the local community.
With our upcoming indoor facilities, including a café, soft play area, classrooms for equine care training, and space for community use, we aim to be a hub of learning, engagement, and support. Our ambition is to make a positive impact on Sanquhar and its surrounding areas, fostering a vibrant and resilient local economy.
